Frenchman Abou Diaby who missed majority of the last campaign due to injury is raring to prove himself on pitch this season and already looking forward to playing beside former Everton man Mikel Arteta.
The former Auxerre man joined Arsenal in 2006 for an undisclosed fee and has managed to make 112 appearances for the Gunners, though his career has been blighted by injuries.
Last season he missed a lot of football due to series of injury scare and the 26-years-old has been limited to just five appearances.
On the other hand, Mikel Arteta who joined the Gunners last season for a reported fee of £10m has been the pillar of strength for the club last season as Arsenal midfield was ravaged by injuries and departure of key players.
Although there is no confirmation of when the highly talented Jack Wilshere will be back in action, but Diaby feels this season Arsenal will have strong midfield options than last term. If the Londoners can land up Santi Cazorla and Nuri Sahin, then undoubtedly the Frenchman has a point here.
“Mikel is a great player and he showed last season that he is a very important player in our team.” Diaby was quoted while speaking to Arsenal’s official website.
“I am looking forward to playing next to him. I personally prefer to play with three midfielders because I can go forward and I can also defend. I think it is the position that will suit me the best.
“Of course the midfield is different now because we are all different. The most important thing is to bring out singularities into the team to make it better. If we have a mix of all that it can be a very good thing.”
