Arsenal’s Belgian center-back Thomas Vermaelen is absolutely desperate in his desire to regain fitness before his country’s big game against England this weekend, hoping to fulfill a lifelong ambition of playing at Wembley.
The 26-year old center back, who missed Arsenal’s ill-fated trip to Wembley for the Carling Cup final last season, is hoping to create his own Wembley moment by giving Gunners teammates Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain a bit of a run around.
In an interview with the Daily Star, Vermaelen said, “I have never played at Wembley. When Arsenal played the league cup final against Birmingham I was injured.
“It must be a great feeling to play there. Just looking at it gives me shivers. I’m suffering from a groin injury, but I hope to be fit to play against England.”
Arsenal fans meanwhile will be hoping that Vermaelen’s visit to Wembley on Saturday is the first of many. The Gunners vice captain has recently come out in the media and pledged his future to Arsenal, and the fans will hope that he would give them plenty of reasons to create some Wembley memories of their own.
