Arsenal ace looking looking for more opportunities up front

Arsenal forward Gervinho is relishing the prospect of playing as a lone forward despite his failure against Schalke and hopes to get more chances to impress as a striker.

Gervinho has been deployed as a striker this season by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and so far he didn’t disappoint to a huge extent.

He was used as a lone striker against German side Schalke in the Champions League mid-week defeat while the Ivorian did well in the same position against Olympiakos earlier in the same competition.

“In the middle, it gives you lots of options,” the 25-year-old told the official Arsenal magazine. “You can make a run on the right, on the left, deep in the centre. It’s a big advantage. I feel good there and I am working hard to improve in that position. I don’t have the physical ability to play in the air or to hold the ball up so I am learning how I can make the best of my qualities for that position.

“I am working very hard at training to improve my efficiency, to be more clinical in front of goal. This has been my flaw so far. I know I still have a lot more to learn but I am more confident now. The start of the season and my goals so far have showed that I have improved a lot.”

Gervinho has scored five league goals this season, and though at times he has wasted too many easy goal scoring opportunities, it is to be seen whether Wenger continues to play him in that forward position.
