Arsenal confident of beating Man Utd, Liverpool and Tottenham to central midfielder

Arsenal are very hopeful of landing Nuri Sahin, the Real Madrid central midfielder, on a season-long deal this summer, despite interest from numerous other top clubs. Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham and a number of other European clubs have registered their interest in the player, who has apparently been told he can leave Real Madrid on a season-long loan.

The player has failed to fit into Jose Mourinho’s plans, having made just 10 appearances following his move from Borussia Dortmund. Wenger though, is a long-term admirer of Sahin, and has spoken to the player post contacting Real Madrid over a deal.

Negotiations though, have hit a roadblock with Sahin currently traveling to the United States with the Madrid squad, while Arsenal have also been tied up with completing the Santi Cazorla switch from Malaga. Delay in negotiations has gotten other teams interested, however Arsenal remain hopeful of closing the deal.

Madrid are also reportedly asking for a hefty loan fee, while Arsenal want the deal to have an option to make the loan into a permanent arrangement in 12 months time. Madrid though, might lower their fee demand, but are not expected to allow any kind of clause in the contract over the player’s long-term future.

Sahin himself looks keen on a move to Arsenal in a bid to convince Mourinho that he can be a quality option in central midfield. The 23 year-old, who twice snubbed a move to Tottenham in the last fortnight, has five years left to run on his Real contract.
