Alex Song is finally a Barcelona player after both the clubs have agreed a deal, worth 19m Euro while the player will join the Catalan club on Monday.
The 24-year-old becomes the second big name to leave the club this summer after Robin van Persie was transferred to Manchester United for £24m.
After a protracted saga, that saw Barcelona players publicly commenting on the player, the Cameroon international confirmed that he is aware of the interests from the Catalan side but is very happy to stay at Arsenal.
Days later, officials from Barcelona visited London and started negotiating. Wenger wanted a fee closer to £20m as the player had three years remaining in his current contract.
Song is just the type of player Barcelona are looking for – a player who can play at central defence or at defensive midfield position.
A statement on the Catalan club’s website said: “FC Barcelona has agreed a deal with Arsenal FC for the transfer of Alex Song to the Camp Nou. The fee is 19 million euros.
“The Cameroon international midfielder will sign for the next five seasons with a release clause of 80 million euros.
“On Monday he’ll have a medical and then join the rest of the squad for the official team presentation at the Gamper.”
