Arsenal are hopeful they can land winger Santi Cazorla after the Spaniard has told the London club that he is prepared to leave Malaga this summer. Manager, Arsene Wenger has been one of his keen admirers and he is preparing a bid of around £16m to secure the deal.
Cazorla joined Malaga last season from Villarreal for a reported fee of 21m Euro. However, the club despite being under the ownership of Qatari businessman who injected 150m Euro in the past two years couldn’t pay regular wages last campaign which prompted the 27-year-old pondering for a move away from La Rosaleda while he has spoken of his desire to join Arsenal.
Initially Malaga were holding on to Cazorla’s 45m Euro buy-out clause but given the club’s parlous financial situation, which could see them getting relegated if they do not pay the remaining debts, are hand tied and forced to sell their star player at a lower price.
Wenger who is looking to add quality players to the squad will be tempted to make the best use of this situation. Arsenal’s pre-season summer business so far is shrouded by Robin van Persie saga but the manager has shown enough ambitions so far in the transfer market.
The Gunners have already signed Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud and Cazorla will give them another attacking dimension. Negotiations are going on between the two clubs and keeping in mind of the player’s desire to play for Arsenal, the deal is a high possibility.
