We have been searching for a goalkeeper for a while now and thought we had found the answer in the shape of Stoke stopper Asmir Begovic and planned on raiding the club for his services. But that looks like it is a no go after the player has admitted that he is ‘happy’ where he is for now and just wants to focus on doing a job for his team.
There has been speculation over a move for a few seasons, as Begovic is regarded as one of the best young goalkeepers currently plying his trade in the Premier League and was linked with a big money move to us, Liverpool and Manchester United.
Speaking to Sky Sports about the interest from the big clubs he said: “It’s very flattering.
It’s positive feedback from other teams that people are looking at you and mentioning you with those teams.
“It’s no secret that everyone has their own ambitions and they want to be playing at the highest level possible.
“But right now I’m just focused on taking Stoke forward and I think the club here has a lot of ambitions; the chairman, the manager and everyone else included.”
Though we have a brilliant young keeper in Wojciech Szczesny, we are in need of bringing in another top-class goalkeeper to keep the young Polish star on his toes because the back-up we have at the moment are not at all impressive.
So if we do not persuade Begovic to change his mind and join us at the Emirates, we will most definitely need to find another target to focus on.
