With the club looking to bring in a new striker in the January transfer window, there had been reports that we were monitoring the situation at Newcastle United as Demba Ba has refused to sign a new contract at the club and it seems that we have moved a step closer to acquiring his services after the player has come out and stated it would be a dream to play for our club.
The big, powerful striker is enjoying a brilliant season and has already got eleven goals to his name in the Premier League, which puts him up there with the top-scorers.
However, he has been in the media lately with his wages demands and has been asking for more than Newcastle are willing to offer. Which means that we may step in and pay the £7.5 million clause in his contract to try and bring him to the Emirates in a few weeks’ time.
As quoted in the Daily Mail, Ba spoke about a possible move to Arsenal and said: “I have nothing to say about those speculations [with Arsenal]. Nothing has happened.
“The media know Arsenal need another striker and they know about my release clause. They need to make their own mind up about it.
“Arsenal are one of those teams who makes you dream.’
It seems Ba has left the door wide open for us to go and make an offer, but the only stumbling block would be his wages. As we would be very reluctant to pay the £90,000-a-week that he is looking for.
However, he would be a welcome addition to the squad wouldn’t he? A proven goal-scorer in the Premier League with the kind of ability that would suit us at the Gunners.
