Arsenal prospects next season, title No, trophy possible

Is a title challenge a realistic ambition for Arsenal this season? Will the Gunners end their 7-year trophy-less slump?

Perhaps for once these two questions are likely to have very different answers. Sticking our neck out ahead of the season, we are going to venture with a No and a Yes.

Arsenal could well end their trophy-less run this season, but chances are any success that they get is likely to come in Cup competitions where they can take advantage of being the better side on the day, rather than having the consistency to compete for the Premier League crown.

At the end of it the argument comes down to squad depth, and Arsenal just don’t have it. While teams like Manchester City and Chelsea have two world class players who can play in practically every position, Arsenal’s second line of defence tends to fall on youth, which can rescue you on any given day, but cannot guarantee a title-winning season.

Arsenal will do well to hang on to Champions League football at the end of the 2012-13 campaign.

Let us know your opinion below, can Arsenal be genuine title contenders, will any trophy do?

If Arsenal can finish 3rd last season after such a grim start, they can become real contenders for every competition they enter.
The reason? The club has a number of players returning from longterm injury, a number are entering their second year in the EPL and there has already been a number of topclass signings.
The club is stronger than lastv term and there is only one way to go…..upwards!!!

The transfer window is still wide open and much will depend on Wenger. Also, we have to see how Wilshere and Sagna fair. We need quality depth and we have six weeks to get it.
Europe and the EPL are and must be our priority the rest is a lottery.

It’s a shame really that Chelsea and City have been allowed to destroy the game with their financial version of steroids. I think AFC have done extremely well to keep up without having the same resources. Our benefit will always be if we can keep our younger players, their team ethic will be unstoppable in the future and the future is what we have without ‘financial steroids’.

I do however, see us in with a chance. The other teams were lucky last season that Arsenal had such a poor start, with the early signings this season and regardless of whether or not the injury prone RVP stays, we are much better prepared this time around.

  • The writer is just not an arsenal supporter or even sympathiser! How can he predict doom and gloom without justifying his assertions. Imagine Arsenal didn’t buy players late last term or even had no injuries what would have happened? Last season Arsenal beat all the big boys save for Manchester united. Is this the team you underrate? Stop these rehearsed things about depth etc. Do you really believe Man city was so outstanding when they won in extra time of the final game against a ten man QPR? Why don’t you analyse without emotions? You would do better not to write off Arsenal this term. The departure of Van Persie will affect Arsenal only at the beginning. I tip Arsenal to do well.

anything is possible …we can win the BPL title…we jz need the right mentality, strength, hunger and togetherness in our team…then for sure we can do it…
Even if we have players leaving and we do not have the huge bank to spend on players..we can find bargain on players which are also world class….Demba Ba,Sakho,Y.dvilla…possibly Gotze
