Arsenal will rally a strong fight with rivals Tottenham Hotspur over the probable signature of Rennes midfielder Yann M’Vila while Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye is also on the radar.
Arsenal have sold Robin van Persie to Manchester United for £24m and Alex Song to Catalan club Barcelona for around £15m leaving Wenger a considerable amount of money to make investments in the squad.
Wenger stressed the need of a defensive midfielder while giving the explanations why he backed off from the Nuri Sahin chase. M’Villa fits the bill perfectly and would be available for £15m.
Newcastle though have made it clear, that it would need an audacious bid to price star midfielder Yohan Cabaye out of Tyneside and won’t entertain any offers less than £20m. However, it is reported that the club is bracing up for a move from both the London sides.
Cabaye was one of the top performers for Newcastle last season and Alan Pardew won’t be risking to let him go with only few days remaining especially as he prepares to take his side to contest for the top four spot. However, by selling him, the Magpies will be in a stronger position to bring back Andy Carroll who Liverpool value at £20m.
