There has been some disappointing news for man Gunners fans that were hoping that Arsene Wenger was going to make a move for Southampton starlet Luke Shaw during this transfer window, as it has emerged that the young man has committed his long-term future to the Saints.
We were reportedly very keen on the 17-year-old as he has impressed many with just how good he is, and could be if he continues to develop at the rate that he is.
However, the 17-year-old has opted to reject the advances of brighter lights of the Premier League and continue his development at St Mary’s.
He told the Saints website “I have spoken with the chairman about a long-term plan for me at the club.
“To put an end to all the speculation, I will be committing my future to Southampton. I’m not going anywhere.
“I think Southampton is the place to be for young kids like me. I’m playing in the Premier League for the first team and that is all anyone wants to be doing, so I just want to carry on.”
Arsenal seem to have problems in the left-wing back area at the moment, with Kieran Gibbs too inconsistent to claim that spot as his own and although Shaw is still young, he has proved that he is not phased at the prospect of playing against some of the world’s best players, and has not looked out of place one little bit.
Wenger will be a little disappointed that he may not get Sham just yet, but the lad will not be at the Saints forever and a move to a bigger club is surely on.
