Arsenal skipper Thomas Vermaelen talks sense over indifferent league start

Arsenal skipper Thomas Vermaelen has insisted that the club is going in the right direction, despite starting the season without a victory. He is happy that the club could manage to keep two clean sheets in their opening two fixtures, despite missing opportunities of scoring goals recklessly.

The Belgian international believes that goals will come for the Gunners and the fans need to keep patience with the team.

“There is always pressure to win a game at Arsenal because we want to win every one,” said the 26-year-old while speaking to Daily Mail.

“But you have to look at the positives as well: our shape is really good and we haven’t conceded any goals in two games.

“That is not easy, especially at a place like Stoke, so we have to keep on working and in the end the results with come. I think the team will get stronger and stronger every game now.

“It is always difficult to go to Stoke but we fought again and have kept another clean sheet. That is good but normally our strengths are scoring goals.

“On Sunday we had enough chances to score a goal and in the end I think we deserved it. That is why the draw is a little bit disappointing.”
