Andre Santos has been issued with a 12 month driving ban after he was found guilty of driving his vehicle at up to 145mph in a 70mph zone. The Arsenal defender was accused of weaving in and out of traffic in rush hour in his black Maserati supercar. Police said that the 29 year old failed to stop despite the sirens and the player was eventually arrested just yards from the training ground in Hertfordshire.
Police issued a statement in court which retold the events of the 17 August. According to officers, Santos was pursued by police as he wove between lanes on a busy motorway and was spotted accelerating at high speeds after passing a speed camera on the A41. The Arsenal player failed to stop when the officers turned on their siren and he continued on to the A1 dual carriageway.
It was estimated that Santos was traveling at double the legal speed limit of 70mph. When he moved on to the M25, drivers had to brake to avoid collisions as he swerved between lanes.
Santos admitted to driving without due care and attention at Hendon magistrates and was also fined 3600 pounds.
Alexandra Ward, defending Santos said that the Brazilian was ‘embarrassed and ashamed’.
