After so many injury setbacks to players this season, with everyone slowly coming back into the team you would have been thinking to yourself ‘finally the team is coming back together again’, but sadly no, today’s battling performance has come at a price with defender Thomas Vermaelen not long back from an injury spell is set to miss at least Wednesday’s game with an ankle problem, whilst Tomas Rosicky also now has a back injury though has not been disclosed what exactly it is, but he will also miss Wednesday’s game after a real man of the match performance from him today.
Arsenal’s injury woes mean that Arsenal will certainly be missing defensive duo Thomas Vermaelen and German international defender Per Mertesacker which will likely mean that Johan Djourou will be called on to start that game – oh dear, and Rosicky joins fellow midfielders Aaron Ramsey, Abou Diaby and of course Jack Wilshere.
Speaking after the game in his post match interview Arsene Wenger addressed both players injuries and speculates on the time they will take to recover:
“Unfortunately we had some bad news for Rosicky today, and Vermaelen as well. Vermaelen has an ankle problem, and Rosicky a back problem. I don’t think they will be available for Wednesday, whether they are available for Saturday is a big doubt.”
Judging by Arsene Wenger’s words there, it looks likely they could be out for a while, something that was needed as we go deeper into the business end of the season – get well soon lads we’re going to need everyone to finish off this season with so many twists and turns to come yet.
