Now before the season started many former Arsenal legends, had a pop at the Club they loved and played with pride for, over it’s transfer policies, it’s man management to name a few things, and that course has been set all season with former players saying how it is at the moment, and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has now after having this for most of the season, told his players to ignore what these former players have said and are saying, as he is now getting very defensive over this.
To be fair though, these former players who are speaking out are legends in the own rights, and have the right to voice their opinion over the way they feel their beloved club, they played for and gave every ounce that they had for the club in the fighting spirit, and never gave up – something not shown these days at the club lets be honest, and these former players won honours with the club including a European trophy in 1994.
Arsene Wenger has told his players now to ignore the opinions and criticisms they have been receiving from former legends of the club, who have claimed that this squad is not good enough to climb into the top four by the end of the season, Former Arsenal players and legends all round, Paul Merson, Nigel Winterburn, Ian Wright, Alan Smith, Frank Mclintock , have all voiced their opinions on this current team and Wenger’s management – that and the board as well.
Former Arsenal froward, Alan Smith – the man who won us the European Cup Winners Cup in 94, has been very outspoken after the defeat to Manchester United, and questioned Wenger’s tactics, his transfer policy and the quality of some of the players currently at the club, Nigel Winterburn spoke out on how he felt Van Persie had no faith in Arsene Wenger any more.
But are they right to criticise this current team and the philosophies and tactics of Arsene Wenger, to be honest yes I feel they are right to, they played with grit and determination in every game for Arsenal, they won honours, they played under one of the most ruthless managers we ever had in George Graham, and they never quit once out on that pitch, I feel they have as much right even more so to have a pop at what is currently happening at their former club.

Correct. concentrate & focus to win something & Top 4.
Merson and Wright both had their Arsenal careers ended by Wenger (at the correct time) and are just bitter about it. Smith certainly never played with ‘grit and determination’ any more than a modern day Peter Crouch. How the hell does Winterburn know how Van Persie feels about anything, has he ever even spoken to him?!
These people are either failed managers (Merson, McKlintock) or know they could never do it and will say anything for a few quid. If they really loved Arsenal they wouldn’t take every opportunity they get to bash the club in whatever way they can. They just sit in their comfy chairs bashing the club which made them famous in the first place and in most cases don’t have the guts to even try to become managers themselves.
Give me someone like Keown or Adams any day who would genuinely lay die their lives for the club over those lot of traiters you’ve mentioned….. Smith and Wright aren’t bothered by what happens to the club, they clearly enjoy Arsenal bashing – what does that say about them?
To claim that ex-players ae traitors and enjoy arsenal bashing to what IS an unbelievably poor arsenal team is nothing short of blind misappropriated loyalty to one man ;arsene wenger. They have every right to speak up about the state of the club that they cherish.
The club they played for had a pride, a never-say-die attitude, and leaders like adams, keown and others that would not have allowed anything less than 100% committment.
Many fans feel exactly how these players feel. The concern is for arsenal football club and not arsene wenger, a manager that has had far too long a run of winning nothing and apparently proud of just scraping into champions league.
The word traitor is being used???? So in effect then anyone in any walk of lfe that doesnt support a dictator or some autocrat is a traitor?…..strange!
I hope more and more players criticize wenger, i believe that many ex players are reluctant to speak out having some historical respect for wenger. This is just the tip of a positive iceberg that may with some momentum remove the root cause of the problem.
Danny Griffiths,
Learn to punctuate properly, friend. Cheers.
Well, seems like at Arsenal, Arsene Wenger is the owner and king, none is to question any of his decisions. All fans are to be ignored, so players must remember that fans do not pay their salaries but the club does. Players only be loyal to Arsene Wenger because he will never ever knock you even if you play like a kangaroo; mind you, Arshavin is not as bad as the fans may think, according to the Boss. Yes, Arsene is boss, just dont forget that, even Kroenke will back him 1000% all the time, no matter win or lose. Ah! the gunners fans? If they dont like me (Arsene), they can find another club cos there are more AKBs in Emirates. Everyone agrees and supports me (Arsene) all the time – just ask Pat Rice!!
Not listening to the legends of the club(now too many players to count and former managers), that built the club, that won us trophies and titles – just add it to the list of extremely poor decisions by the current regime. wenger/board out.
