Barcelona tapping up antics will not see them snatch Alex Song

Despite strong interest from Barcelona, that involved their own players doing transfer campaigning for them, Arsenal are quite confident of keeping hold of their star midfielder Alex Song.

The Catalan giants are looking for a defensive midfielder who could also play in the central defence. They kept Athletic Bilbao’s Javi Martinez as their primary target but ultimately refused to pay the 40m Euro demanded by the club as per the player’s buy-out clauses.

They turned their attention to the 24-year-old midfielder of Arsenal and are prepared to dish out a sum of 12m Euro for the Cameroon international.

According to Metro, they have sent their sent vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu to finalise the deal. However, Arsene Wenger insisted yesterday that there is no foundation of truth that the club has contacted over the possibility of getting his midfielder.

Arsenal is not willing to negotiate at the moment and might consider selling for money of around £25m for the player who has three years left in his contract.

Wenger expects Song to commit a long term future at Arsenal if he is assured a pay hike and continuous regular role in the side.
