Manchester City are looking to boost their options at the back to send out a signal of intent to all those dreaming of claiming the Premier League title from the holders. The Citizens are said to have submitted a 30 million pound bid for Chelsea defender David Luiz but former Chelsea assistant coach Ray Wilkins believes that newly appointed Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen will be a better purchase for the defending BPL Champions as he will be better value for money.
He said, “If I was Manchester City, I would look at Vermaelen to play alongside [Vincent] Kompany.
“Kompany on the right side, Vermaelen on the left side, you would have a rock solid back two there. And he probably wouldn’t cost you £30million either.
“For that sort of money, Vermaelen looks a very, very good centre-half and he’s naturally left sided, so that would seem a good option.”
The former England International’s words may have sane advice embedded in them, however Man City need to start looking elsewhere for top class talent because the days of City just walking in and taking Arsenal players are probably at end and about time to.
