It certainly is something when ex refs actually back Arsenal claims, and today Graham Poll has done just that, with his damnation of Tottenham’s Gareth Bale for his dive against Arsenal which earned a penalty for them which Adebayor converted to make it 2 – 0 at the time to Spurs.
Graham Poll was writing in his column in the Daily Mail and was full of praise for yesterdays match which Arsenal came back from 2 – 0 behind to destroy Spurs with five goals in one hour’s play as they won the game 5 – 2 – and what a game it was, and when you consider Eduardo was banned for games for a dive against Celtic a couple of seasons back, the same action should apply now to Gareth Bale.
Speaking in his column, Graham Poll had this to say on Bale’s dive and calls him unsporting:
“In such games, and perhaps all games, it is always advisable only to give ‘stonewall’ penalty kicks and no doubt, at full speed and from his angle (ref Howard) Dean felt sure enough to give Tottenhamtheir penalty after 34 minutes when Bale went down attempting to go past Wojciech Szczesny in theArsenal goal.”
“If it was a foul it should have been a red card for the keeper and perhaps Dean had doubts over the accuracy of his decision and left him on the pitch.”
“Replays showed that Bale had not been fouled but I would not blame Dean for being fooled; rather look at the conduct of Bale and plead that the FA introduce retrospective punishment for diving.”
