Cameroon International Alex Song has spoken out over his £15 million move to Barcelona and the midfielder has some insinuating things to say about his former employers. According to an interview given by the player to British tabloid the Sun, he never really wished to leave the Emirates but was instead looking to sign a long term deal at the club.
Barcelona’s new boy went on to say, “I wanted a new five-year contract at Arsenal. In the end I got one — at Barcelona.
“I had been trying for eight months to start talking about a new long-term deal but the club kept postponing me all the time, saying ‘You have three years left’.
There were rumours circulating in certain circles that the player wanted a heftier pay package at the Emirates and his greed ultimately compelled the club to sell him away to the highest bidder.
But the midfielder denied those claims saying, “I hadn’t talked about money I just wanted to sit down and discuss a new deal — I wanted to commit my career to the club I loved.
“Then out of the blue, Barcelona came in for me.”
If his words are indeed true, Arsenal have, rather frivolously, lost a critical cog in their machinery.

I don’t believe him at all – I don’t believe Barcelona came in out of the blue at all, I don’t believe you’d desperately keep trying to start new contract negotiations without talking about money – why else are you getting involved if you have 3 years left? All of Darren Deins clients ave followed the same pattern, he shops his clients services around Europe in an attempt to drum up interest, they use this as leverage to try and get better wages out of Arsenal, if it fails they move on and Dein pockets a lovely little wedge of spite money.
Hi gunners. With great love for the club I sincerely agree with Alex’s side of the story. The reason is simply because no one on the side of the management will ever come out to tell us the truth about why our players leave for other clubs at our expense. Why is it that we can’t hold on to the players we introduced to the EPL. It just further shows that Arsenal is all about the biz aspect of the game. I may be sounding foolish at the moment, but I say it with all caution, ” nothing good can come out of Arsenal if we have the likes of Ramsey, Walcott, Djorou, Bendtner and Squilachi on our bench. Even if we sell them and replace them with players that haven’t got experience we only further deceive ourselves. Its so embarassing when before a game studio analysts predict a match against Swansea with respect to them and they are not confident to predict in favor of Arsenal. What a shame to see our darling club become so ordinary. All the same, still a gunner
HE STILL HAD 3YRS CONTRACT…HE SHOULD HAVE EXCERSISED SOME PATIENCE,ARSENAL WOULD SURELY GIVE HIM AN IMPROVED CONTRACT.ARSENAL ALSO FOUND OUT HIS AGENT WAS TALKING TO CLUBS….PLUS RUMOUR SAYS HE WAS RUDE ON AND OFF THE PITCH BECAUSE OF THE DELAY..ALL HE NEEDED WAS SOME PATIENCE
don’t understand the “I hadn’t talked about money I just wanted to
sit down and discuss a new deal” a new deal with an increment obviously ,thats the money thing Song wake up !!
How could he be pushing so desperately for a contract extension when he had three years left? Telling the “truth”? No way. I think the guy was greedy. Good riddance.
Song’s story does not ring true. One year,4 months into a 5 year contract he wants a new deal as he wants to stay at Arsenal. He doesn’t want more money – yeah, that’ll be right !
Why would the club need to discuss a new contract with a player who has 3 years left? that would be like discussing a new contract with podolski who also has 3 years left
I knew right from the start of this transfer saga that something was fishy about it. I new that the song i knew will never leave arsenal like that. Is high time wenger start telling us fans the truth. So that we will stop calling our players n ex ones names.
I don’t believe this – he was on a long term contract (which increases annually). His agent is Darren Dein (Mr Screw over Arsenal) and he’s just watched the backlash against RvP. He’s just trying to save face. Wenger made him, Wenger sold him. Thank you and goodbye.
why you believeing some1 who wanted to move then its easy to blame arsenal for it he wanted to go end of arsenal have no problems
absolutely rubbish. if song really said that in an interview then he must think we are all stupid. as if vermalen didnt have the same approach, or wasnt koiscieny approached too. now he is saying he wanted a new contract but got sold.. man stay off the media
You need to understand something about contracts. A contract is an agreement between groups in this case Arsenal and Alex Song. When the length of a contract is set for a period of time there is a reason for it. You can not just walk in to the office and demand a different contract, before the existing contract has expired or is close to expiration. When you agree to a contract you have to live with the terms of that contract.
Arsenal are VERY GREEDY CLUB
losing a player like Song especially when he is at his high performing stage, will cost Arsenal a lot. I doubt if they can get a replacement for Song d quality.
Look it is simple! The guy showed disrespect to coach Steve Bould. We can’t tolerate insubordination! There were sighns on the horizon where he, about 3 seasons ago, showed disrespect to his national captain, Samuel E’to.
Bullshit!
You wanted HUGE money!
Greedy motherfucker!!!
Is very unfortunate for the departure of Alex Song! No doubt wenger sold him to protect the interest of Abu Diaby who has no reason to make Arsenal first team for now. wenger should have put sentiment behind and have focus for Arsenal success in question.
Well, isn’t it obvious that wenger forced song out so he could creat space in d midfield for “over-hyped” diaby? We’ve seen it before, with Gilberto making way for flamini, AC making way for clichy, and so on. it’s all about the French connection. The same players will finally hit the limelight and seek greener pastures else where. Personally, am happy Alex song made this revelation, who knows how many players wenger forcefully kicked out in the pass? Arsenal and arsene wenger really do have some problems. The earlier he (wenger) and the realise that it’s keeping your best players that win you trophies not restructuring the team every summer, the better for AFC……….gunner forever!!!

The story sound shabby and shallow with no content how can you just want o sit and talk about a new deal without talking about improvement in package it just ddoesnt add up eventhough narcs came for him and you couldn’t turn it down like derossi with mancity all he is saying is just bullshit talk to justify himself its good he gone so he should just forget arsenal for good
Same as Nasri …
He hadn’t talked about money – but he would have done. He was paid less than squad players not half as good. Same as Nasri … Both were fobbed off for months on end by the club not wanting to act upon it.
The man is a LIAR!
Alex song is a flop if he really did wanted to stay with arsenal for life then he wouldve, theres no rush he had 3 years left on his contract
“Frivolous” is a heavy word here (as is “critical”). Again, most of the media only recognized Song’s key role in the 2011/12 squad when he was gone.
But the key thing here is: why should we believe a player who has every reason to claim it wasn’t his fault he left? And not other, just as (un)reliable sources that make us believe He lacked discipline (on the pitch and/or off) and his agents pushed for bigger pay? It hardly seems logical that a club should push for a transfer “out of the blue” – especially a club ran by Wenger. When you claim Song’s right, you also implicitly claim Wenger’s incompetent, and that claim demands further proof.
