It may sound a bit mad but should this Arsenal outcast be given a chance this evening

Everyone has been talking about how weak Montpellier are this season. They’ve had a bad run of games and everyone is expecting the Gunners to roll over them. Whilst that may be the case, shouldn’t we then at least allow some fringe players to get a crack at some playing time and perhaps new positions?

Now, I’m not suggesting that we start some bench players, only that we encourage them into a chance to play in order to prove why they’re an Arsenal player to begin with. One such case in point, is Arshavin. The little Russian hasn’t been in favor with the Arsenal faithful but there’s no denying that when he first arrived on the scene he was as popular as Cazorla is now. Often played out on the wing, his performances have taken a dip of late. Wrong decisions and self doubt have caused him to lose his first team place BUT has anyone noticed that when played in an attacking midfield role, Arshavin excels.

He’s quick, alert, passes well, finds space, opens gaps and even takes a crack at goal from distance. He’s basically Cazorla-only Russian and with red cheeks. Wenger shouldn’t discount Arshavin’s ability to be an asset to our current squad. Far too often, we see players lose form over time because they’re subjected to bad positions. Okay, it’s the nature of the game but it shouldn’t cripple a player. Walcott can be another case in point here. If we not going to play him wide, play him up front. If he’s going to sit on the bench, playing him as a striker. He wants to and so it’s only right, Wenger gives him a shot. I think he’s earned as much. He fails, he can go back to sitting in as a wing.

Montpellier aren’t an easy team but we may just take the advantage early on and put a few of goals behind our name. If that’s the case, sub Cazorla with Arshavin and give Walcott a striking role. There’s honestly nothing to lose.

Yes, Ashavin plays well when given a central role…he should always be used to sub Carzola. I see him doing well there. I think he doesn’t the position he’s being playing…He’s still has the talent and experience we also need….
