It was inevitable that Walcott would get a “mixed” reaction, only has himself to blame

After Saturday’s 6-1 win against Southampton, Arsenal fans will be less than happy to see the Walcott saga rise up again. The winger came off the bench to score a goal but was met with a mixed reaction from the Emirates faithful. The player scored against his former club and did not celebrate his goal which has once again fired up speculation over Walcott’s future.

As we all know, Walcott is yet to extend his current contract at Arsenal which ends at the end of the season and Wenger is clearly unhappy about the player’s situation at the club after failing to commit to a contract extension.

Wenger had this to say about Walcott’s mixed reaction that he received after coming on the pitch on Saturday, ‘Clearly it is a worry. You want your players to be supported no matter what contractual situation they are in, but at the moment we cannot let this affect us.’

One thing is clear though this season, Walcott’s failure to commit to the club may be one reason ‘The Ox’ has started for the Gunners this season. Perhaps Wenger is aware that Walcott may not renew his contract and is making terms with it, allowing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to get the experience needed if he’s to consistently play in the Premier League.

Should Wenger not come to an agreement with Walcott over his contract then the winger may be sold in the January window with the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Juventus all reportedly interested in the England international’s services.
