Let’s talk about a player who has had a hard time of late. Spare a thought for Koscielny, who has found a hard time breaking into our first team now with Mertesacker playing well. The French international was undoubtedly one of Arsenal’s star players last season and his performances were so good that he got called up to represent France in Euro 2012.
Picking up a calf injury during a pre-season game left him sidelined for the Gunner’s first two games. After which we all thought, Koscielny will simply retake his place beside Vermaelen once he recovers. However, Mertesacker has been impressive thus far this season. The only area of his game that needs work is his pace. Tricky, small, fast paced wings leave him for dead when they cut inside. Koscielny handles them better with his agility to turn swiftly. When Mertesacker was brought into the squad, I was really happy. What’s not to like with having a German International defender in your team? However, since Koscielny’s break out season last year I can’t help but wonder if a rotation of some kind should be implemented to suit both players.
Simply put, they both good and they both have their own individual strengths and weaknesses. Perhaps Wenger should use a rotation policy depending on our opposition. For the upcoming game against City, I think it’s too important a game to be changing things up at the back. Vermaelen and Mertesacker have formed a good partnership together and can back that fact up with having best defensive record in the Premier League so far. Keep Mertesacker for City. We don’t need to change a winning formula, at least not just yet.

city’s forward line is short very agile n aguero n tevez Av low centre of gravity n pace….
koscienly is better defending against such players
koscienly should get a nod over mertesacker
coz arteta isn’t a natural dm….n arteta lacks pace to stop silva n co
Lets not compare two players fighting for the same position. Man Wenger will decide whom to play. Rotation is the best system but for the central defenders will leave ball to manager other than politisize. We have four trophies to fight for not just EPL. Barca will play the next four games without Pique and Puyol. Most probaly Song will take over with Matcherano. Same to our side team is bigger than an individual lets not insight our players to leave Us.

I feel safe if Koscielny played, because I believe he is the better defender and brave. But he should not be brought in to the team now against city, it is not the right time or match for big changes, we should have played him against Montpellier if we wanted him to play against city. What I am more worried about is jenkinson being outplayed
I sincerely believe in the status-quo as it is at the moment.
What about having a rich bench for effective cover.
