Despite seeing Robin van Persie make strong statements regarding his impending exit from the Emirates, Arsenal’s summer signing Lukas Podolski still harbours hopes of playing alongside the Dutchman when the new season gets underway.
Podolski made a much-anticipated switch to North London earlier in the summer, moving from Bundesliga side Koln for £12 million. However, the German international’s hopes of playing alongside last season’s 30-goal hero Robin van Persie took a hit when the Dutchman announced his plans of leaving Arsenal after the expiry of his contract.
With the Gunners unlikely to let Van Persie’s contract run out at the end of next season and let him leave for free, the Arsenal skipper is set to be sold in the coming month, with Manchester City and Juventus vying for his signature.
However, when asked about the Van Persie situation, Podolski spoke in glowing praise of the Dutchman, hoping that the tailsmanic striker would stay on at the Emirates.
“All I can say is Van Persie had an amazing record last season and hopefully there is a way he can stay with Arsenal,” said Podolski. “It would be great to play with him, but obviously this is not in my control.”
