Man City happy to bide their time before they make a move for Robin van Persie

Robin van Persie has returned to the Emirates for the first time since his admission that rocked the Gunners last week, with the Dutchman reporting as scheduled for the club’s pre-season preparations.

The Dutch ace declared last week that would not sign a new contract at the club following the expiry of his current deal, thus putting a deep strain on his relationship with his manager Arsene Wenger.

The two however are set to put those differences aside and be professional till any agreement transpires, with the 28-year old striker undergoing a medical assessment at the North London club on Monday.

Both Arsenal and Van Persie are keen to seek clarity over the striker’s contract issues and come to a conclusion by the end of the week, with neither the player nor the club interested in having an exit-bound star travel with the rest of their squad to the Far East for their pre-season commitments.

Manchester City, the striker’s principle suitors, however might see more use in biding their time and seeing how Van Persie’s situation at the Emirates pans out, with the possibility of Roberto Mancini claiming him for a cheaper price towards the end of the transfer window.

Arsenal were stuck in a similar situation last season, when Samir Nasri travelled with the Gunners to Malaysia and China for a pre-season tour before moving to City.

The Citizens meanwhile are trying hard to facilitate Van Persie’s move as well, and have been busy in recent weeks trying to agree a deal between themselves and Tottenham Hotspur for wantaway striker Emmanuel Adebayor.

RVP did a good job for Arsenal last season. I must thank him for that. Though he has refused to renew contract should not put the club on panic. He should never be sold cheaply. If no good offer, he should be allowed to see off his contract.

He should be allowed to go to man city before he starts messing us up.
