Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is expecting to land Robin van Persie and envisage the Gunner’s skipper will form a formidable strike partnership with Wayne Rooney for the coming season.
The 28-year-old Dutchman is valued between £20M to £25M and Ferguson is understood to have told his friends that he wishes to land the striker despite heavy interests from Manchester City and Juventus.
The Holland International openly proclaimed in early July that he won’t be extending his present contract, which is due to expire next season.
Arsenal are in no man’s land here as they neither want to lose their maverick skipper nor they can ignore the fact that come next season he would leave the club for free.
Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is hopeful of landing the Dutchman who scored 30 league goals last season, but he must remove the deadwoods from the club to free up space and wage bill.
Juventus are also interested in him but keeping their parlous financial condition in mind they might forfeit the race. Plus they have other targets too like Napoli’s Edinson Cavani.
Arsenal came up with a strong statement yesterday that the club will do everything to keep their skipper for the next season and willing to let him go for free when time arises.

Berbatov is leaving. United always include 4 strikers in their squad so they need a replacement this summer. If Arsenal keep hold of Van Persie United will look elsewhere and next summer they will not bid. The one thing that Arsenal must aim to avoid is Van Persie going to a rival, no matter the cost.
