Manchester United may have been declared the overwhelming favourites in the media for capture of Robin van Persie, but their own manager, Sir Alex Ferguson doesn’t feel like a favourite at all.
Speaking to the press after Manchester United’s defeat at the hands of Barcelona in a pre-season friendly in Sweden, Sir Alex said, “We have made a bid and they’ve been trying to negotiate with other clubs. I don’t have a gut feeling on it at the moment, I must admit. We’re not getting any breakthrough with Arsenal. It’s difficult to say why they’re operating this way. I don’t know what their thoughts are because they’re not giving anything away.”
Other reports in the press have suggested that Arsenal are so desperate not to lose their skipper to their once upon a time arch rivals, that they have actually declared a 20 million pound price tag on Van Persie for any other suitors, but Manchester United would need to pay 25 million to sign the Dutchman.
However, having missed out on Eden Hazard and Lucas Moura this summer, Sir Alex will be desperate to land RVP, and now with his 50 million pound warchest undisturbed, could be willing to spend top dollar on last season’s Golden Boot winner.

how dare we expect to get a fee reasonable for a player of robin vanpersies standard don’t we know when manu click they’re fingers we better sell or fergi will be very angry! oh man im scared of that fergie hes gonna beat up everyone if he dosent get his way including your children!
Arsenal have no doubt set a fair market value on RVP. Eventually, United will pay the required fee and we can all move on.
What is irritating is the arrogance of Ferguson in whining that the delay is Arsenal’s for not accepting whatever sum he has offered.
I repeat….at the end of the day United will pay Arsenal’s valuation. And whatever that figure is, Ferguson will boast that he would have been prepared to pay more.
Why would Van go to a worse squad? With a red-nosed wino on his way OUT coz he ain’t got the most money any more.
