Swiss international Francois Affolter is the newest name linked to Arsenal in the summer transfer window this season.
For those of you who have never heard of Affolter here are the basic facts – he’s a defender – an old fashioned DRC, who can be deployed either as a full-back or a central defender, ideally in a three man back line, which given his height of 6 feet 2 inches, won’t be an issue. He has the potential to be like Branislav Ivanovic, but at present he tends to fall more in the Carl Jenkinson category, which given the fact Arsenal have young Carl, one will have to question the wisdom of this link.
After having spent his youth career at a couple of different clubs, Affolter moved to BSC Young Boys at the start of the 2007 season. He has close to 100 appearances for the Swiss Super League club, but was sent out on loan last season to Werder Bremen, for whom he featured 12 times.
We believe that the Swiss club were looking to sell the player, and were looking to boost his price by giving him a chance to showcase his skills in a better quality league.
Arsenal are believed to be one of many Premier League clubs interested in the player, and it is rumoured that he would cost between 1-2 million pounds to procure.
