According to Thomas Vermaelen, England will have a good European Championship this summer under Roy Hodgson. The centre half was part of the Belgian team that lost 1-0 to England last night at Wembley and was impressed by the performance of the Three Lions.
Vermaelen believes that the team’s experience will hold them in good stead and the fact that every member plays in a very high quality and competitive league only adds to England’s advantage.
In an interview with Sky Sports News, Vermaelen said, “It’s a good side. They have a lot of experienced players, good players. They all play in the Premier League so I think they will do well in the Europeans.”
Vermaelen also spoke highly of Arsenal teammate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who made his first start in an England shirt last night, and believes that the teenager has a good future at highest level.
Vermaelen, the Arsenal vice-captain, saw the youngster come to the club from Southampton at the start of the season, and battle hard to earn his place in the Arsenal first team squad. The center-back said, “I think he’s really brave when he plays and I think players who are really brave should be rewarded for that. I’m happy for him he is there in the squad.”
