Interesting isn’t it? Szczesny has not gone with the squad to France over a reported ankle injury that he picked up during the warm up before the Southampton match. This comes after the player had just recovered from a rib injury, that kept him out of the squad. Now, is it just me or does an ankle injury seem more harmful to a goalkeeper than a rib injury?
Who knows? The stupid thing though, is that if Szczesny did pick up an ankle injury before the Southampton game, why was he allowed to play? His distribution is usually poor but in that match his kicking was shocking. Was the ankle injury to blame? Here’s the thing though, if Szczesny was injured then why would Wenger risk starting him when he didn’t allow Diaby to play with a non-serious muscular discomfort?
Now i love a good conspiracy as much as the next person but is there something fishy going on here? Wenger isn’t exactly the shy type but he is tactful and has been known to drop players and excuse them from the squad claiming false injuries. Is this the case here? It seems the most likely case. Wenger isn’t the type of coach to risk players who are injured, especially not first choice goalkeepers. Mannone would have been perfect cover if Szczesny was in doubt for the match. In fact, I thought Mannone should’ve started anyways.
Like I said, i like conspiracies so I’m inclined to believe this whole injury thing is nonsense and Wenger is teaching Szczesny a lesson. After all, it wouldn’t be the first time…
