With critics having a field day after Arsenal failed to find the net in two full games this season, Arsene Wenger has urged fans to have patience and give the squad time to gel and work together.
Wenger has splurged heavily on the attacking third of his squad, bringing in Lukas Podolski, Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla. However, in over 180 minutes, the Gunners have failed to find the net even once. Fans are naturally remembering former skipper Robin van Persie, who scored 30 goals last season to clinch the Premier League’s Golden Boot.
“I know what it is to improve a football player, what it is to go out morning and afternoon and try to make a player out of somebody,” Wenger said. “Of course, they are also quality players. One month ago they didn’t know each other. It [the attack] is the department where we have the most new players and you could see that. [We can get that working] by practicing how we want to move and on the quality of the final ball.”
Although Cazorla, Podolski and Giroud have shown their individual talent on the ball, the attacking line-up is still unable to find the net. Wenger continues to keep his faith in the trio and is confident that they can win over the fans over time.
Their next clash is against Liverpool and the Merseysiders have had a poor defensive record thus far, letting in 5 goals in just two games. This should boost the morale of the Arsenal attack and the following Sunday could be the day that Wenger and the trio themselves will be able to silence the critics.
