Wenger rules himself out of England job

So here is a debate that would have been quite a topic, should Wenger become the next England boss? well sadly he has answered the question himself, but could you still debate the matter for him, well for me – no, if you look at the situation at Arsenal at the moment which you could argue is Wenger’s or the boards doing, but the blame has to fall squarely at the manager who selects the tactics, policies and players themselves for the club, and whilst he might be an interesting candidate, given the players available for the England set up, let’s be honest he’d still probably look further down the leagues for players for the national side.

Wenger himself however has stated that England needs an English manager in the team, and with Fabio Cappello leaving the post at the end of the European Championships, the race is on to find his successor to which Wenger even jokes “well Harry Redknapp is English” in his interview on Arsenal.com:

“Harry Redknapp is a candidate, he is English, he is ready, he is happy to do it and you [the media] have already chosen him, so don’t doubt it to much!”

“I always told you that for me the national team needs an English manager and I will never change that view for one minute.

“I will keep my exact principle and I think it is important for you [English people] as well because if a foreign manager wins a European Championship you will say somewhere that it is not completely an English triumph.”

Wenger also spoke on whether or not he felt an English manager could get more out of the English players themselves:

“I don’t know, it is very difficult to predict,”

“For me England are outsiders [for Euro 2012]. They can maybe win it if they click just right at the time of the competition and their main players – Gerrard, Rooney – are in fantastic form.

“For example Steven Gerrard has not played for a long time now but if he comes back after a good rest in top form, then why not? And Capello has the quality too get the best out of the team, you cannot deny that.”

For me I have to admit as would most fans I feel, that an English manager as national team manager is essential, fair enough foreign boss’s for your domestic teams, but for a national team they should always be of that nationality I feel, a manager that knows the English game and philosophies inside out and that can communicate with his staff and players fluently.
